About this deal

In an unbalanced heating system, hot water doesn’t flow evenly through all your radiators. This means some radiators heat up slower than others. If bleeding doesn’t solve your problem, the system is probably unbalanced. How to Balance Your Radiators to Fix a Cold Radiator Problem Only changing two raditors and moving some around. Just bought a house that I found had a single pipe system and some massive radiators (probably because of the system). I'm changing it to a two pipe system and moving a couple of radiators to suit the room sizes.

This type of valve is smaller, and covered with a domed plastic hood. Some have a screw through the hood that must be taken out before you can take off the plastic hood. You’ll need pliers or a grip of some kind to take off the hood. Underneath looks like the end of a flat-head screwdriver. This is the original type of radiator valve, which only has 2 positions – on or off – so the only choice you have is to allow water to flow, or not. It usually has a plain, round metal top, which can be twisted on or off. Thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) Make sure it’s completely turned off, and wait for the radiators to cool down. 3. Radiator drain valves have a square head and are needed to drain radiators and central heating systems. My ratchet radiator drain valve key To balance your rads, you will need to bleed them first – this is where the bleed key comes in if you are not sure how to do it, we have instructions just for you here.

My favourite and best tool for valve tails is a step ratchet. They’re so much better, but if you’re not using them often, you might be better off with an Allen key type radiator spanner. The Most Common Tails Thermostatic radiator valves are a great way of controlling the temperature in each room of your home, allowing you to use less energy heating rooms you don't use very often. Because of this flexibility, they tend to be preferred to the old manual twist valves where the valves are either on or off without the ability to react to the temperature in the room.

Trade Radiators has been serving the UK since 2007, providing stylish and efficient radiators, towel radiators, electric radiators and radiator valves online. Over the years, we’ve built up a solid customer-base made up of people who love what we have to offer.

Increasingly common on modern radiators in new-build homes or those with upgraded heating systems, TRVs tend to be used instead of manual twist valves. They can be identified by a twistable chunky cap that usually contain a series of numbers from 0 - 5. Each number correlates to a certain temperature with 1 being the coldest and 5 being the hottest. Setting the valve to 0 means the valve is completely off (or closed) and the frost setting can be used to stop your pipes from freezing if you're away during cold weather. Every home should have a radiator bleed key for bleeding radiators (and sometimes venting) for if and when they ever need to. My radiator bleed keys Some radiator valves do not get opened or closed for years, which can cause them to leak when closing for the first time.
