About this deal

The Allarus Terminators are fussier than the Custodian Guards, because their pauldrons are overhangs and their little turtle heads make a “dead zone” for paint unless you hit that area from just the right angle. Cover all but the deepest recesses in Rhinox Hide / Vallejo Burnt Umber (whichever you have to hand). Again, I do this with an airbrush for time’s sake but you can do this with a brush quite easily. If you don't airbrush then do the same as above (obviously with a paintbrush instead of airbrush) but do the following paint switches:

I do think the Citadel base paints across the board are really good. But, this particular metallic is my favorite and I tend to use it for all the gold bits on various models. What About the Retributor Armour Spray?

Base

For both of these steps, I was careful to make sure the paint didn’t pool in open spaces on the model. You want as smooth a colour as you can get. Wash the reds with Nuln Oil to darken the robes down more than an Agrax or Carroburg Crimson wash would do. We want some deep rich colors to set off the pale white. The base colours are pretty standard, so if you’ve read through any of my Stormcast tutorials or watched any of the videos on our youtube channel (here), then you’ll have a fair idea. Drybrush the darker metal areas with Ironbreaker, and highlight the lighter areas with Scale 75 Heavy Metal.

And there you have it. Add any further small details you may want, but they’re all ready to go slay the enemies of the Emperor. Greedy Gold Colour Primer’s slightly different can shape seems to indicate a different producer than the other Colour Primers. The paint applies beautifully, no special treatment needed, just apply short bursts from a distance of about 20 cm, like with any other miniature spray paint your familiar with. The coverage is great, and two thin coats are enough to cover over bare plastic. Durability is also good, as this scratch test shows. Tyler: The Howling Griffons have always been one of my favourite Space Marine Chapters. They have a distinctive and striking colour scheme, but it’s also one of the more challenging ones. Not only is it quartered, but it’s also red and yellow – two of the harder colours to paint.Add dots of pure white over the previous steps. This is the bit where suddenly it looks like metal and it’s very satisfying. You really are aiming for small dots (unless it’s a vehicle then you can go for bigger patches. Reds The eye lenses were basecoated with Corax White . I left a line of the darker colour showing around the edge of this.

If you start painting with the spray, you can’t reliably use the paint pot version to touch-up your models. Bummer. It’s kind of a frustrating experience when you first learn this. It’s coarse enough that you can feel it when you run a finger over it, and it seems to absorb paint like no-one’s business. I’m not sure the reason behind that, but it’s a pain.I had a similar thing happen when I sprayed a load of primaris marines with Averland Sunset, but managed to scrape off the texture with some vigorous toothbrush action. More importantly, it means that my Retributors look like they’ve been coated in cheap Christmas glitter.I’ve been painting a lot of Adeptus Custodes models fromGamesWorkshop (GW) for a personal Warhammer 40k collection. I really liked the gold metallic theme, shiny and warm, with splashes of red, which reminded me of the ancient Roman military. So I went with the studio scheme using the box art as a reference.

In this article, I review my favorite gold metallic paint: Retributor Armour Gold metallic base paint. I also share my thoughts about the metallic spray version of Retributor Armour Gold. In step 4 above switch the Vallejo metal color gold and Vallejo metal color chrome mixture to Scale 75 cintrine alchemy.Ribbons – Two layers of highlights, the first is Rakarth Flesh and a little white added, the second is just adding more white to the previous mix.
