About this deal

Support for a water bladder. A water system for trekking is not included, but you can easily add one if you want. The padding is comfortable. I carried it stuffed full of all my gear on the four day Santa Cruz Trek in the Cordillera Blancas of Peru and the padding and clips helped ease the burden a lot. But if you don’t spend a lot of time outdoors, then you’re better off with the classic Farpoint. It’s better suited for travel, and it is available in more sizes. The Trek opens from the side, like a suitcase. The items in the center are held together by compression straps, keeping everything else in place too.

If I were going on a big round-the-world trip or gap year today — one that would take me through multiple climates — I would likely go for this set-up instead of just a single carry-on. Conclusion If you are spending a summer city hopping around Europe or Southeast Asia the standard Farpoint will suit you perfectly. On the other hand, if you are heading to South America and planning a few hiking trips, the Farpoint Trek will be much better suited to the task! Plus, the extra clips on the front and bottom meant I could strap a sleeping bag and a tent to the outside which was great when my bag was full. Since I am a dude I can’t speak from personal experience here, but many women travelers I’ve met have told me they love this edition. The outside of the Farpoint Trek 75 is covered in various attachment points for extra gear. From the daisy chain style loops to the mount points for the rain cover, Osprey have covered all their bases here. There are also 70-liter versions, though I personally consider these too large for general travel purposes. Features of the Farpoint Trek 55 It is available in just two sizes, both of which are too big to be considered a carry-on. And that is one reason why I’m not so impressed with the travel aspect of this bag. The Farpoint series is technically unisex, but there is now also the Osprey Fairview 40. This is a women’s specific edition with some tweaks for extra comfort.

When reviewing the Farpoint Trek 55, it occurred to me that it could be part of a very cool set-up for long-term travel. On the plus side, though, the lifetime warranty means I can get it patched for free. The only reason I haven’t is that the material is so high-quality the hole hasn’t grown at all in two years and I forget it’s there! But I think the best fit for this bag is actually round-the-world or gap-year travelers who will travel mostly overland. Although the Farpoint/Fairview series isn’t necessarily designed for hiking, they are comfortable enough to take on hikes during your travels. Where to buy Osprey Farpoint 55Integrated compression system. While the regular Farpoint which has no internal organization features, the Trek does have several. Then perhaps I can offer some help, because I’ve used and reviewed nearly all versions of the Farpoint line-up. Osprey Farpoint Trek FAQs Osprey Farpoint VS Osprey Farpoint Trek – Which Should I Choose? The Farpoint and the Farpoint Trek, which one is for you? So, I literally live out of this bag and have for three years of full-time travel through more than 20 countries. The frame in the Trek 75 is much like that of the original Farpoint. It is very unobtrusive yet still works incredibly well and makes carrying heavy loads a doddle.

By the way, the Trek version of the Farpoint does not have an S/M or M/L version, since it can be adjusted to any height. At this point, I consider our Osprey bags as part of my family because they were wedding gifts and have been a dependable companion to us through it all. Osprey bags have officially been puppy approved by this lil’ guy in Bulgaria – how many of their competitors can say that? No, there is just one size. It used to have a S/M and a M/L version but no longer. There is now only one size: O/S.Whether to buy the Farpoint or Fairview 55 or another version depends on your space requirements and whether you’re into the 2-in-1 system. You can consider several configurations based on your needs: No. The Farpoint Trek is too big to take on as hand luggage. You may be able to sneak the smaller 55-litre version on as hand luggage but officially, it’s too large. The other common question I get is if the 40L carry-on size is big enough for certain trips. I think traveling minimally is great, but there are some trips where you might need a bit of extra space. If you are on the fence about how much space you need, then the Farpoint Trek 55 is a really nice step up from carry-on.

No. The Farpoint Trek is the men’s version of the bag. The women’s version is known as the Fairview Trek and comes in two sizes, 50-litres and 70-litres. What are the differences? Well, the Fairview 40 has slightly smaller dimensions, but has been made more comfortable as it is designed for the female body. Also, the shoulder straps curve along the body, creating a better fit-for-women design. The Farpoint 55 and Fairview 55 are essentially the same product; the only difference is that the Fairview is a women’s specific version. The latest edition has an adjustable harness. This means you can move the harness up or down by up to about 3 inches or 8cm. The Farpoint 55 Trek is not only for trekking, but it’s definitely a lot more suitable for it than the other Farpoint editions. It’s much more comfortable, has better padding, and has an integrated rain cover.

Osprey Farpoint 55 Review: What I Love

When product pictures of the new Farpoint got released, I saw many comments on forums comparing it to the Osprey Porter. They do look a bit similar in pictures, but the Farpoint is absolutely NOT as structured or as stiff as the Porter.
