About this deal

It has certainly not been the easiest of journeys, his luck beginning to turn with an appearance at the Royal Variety Show, and even then it was not instant. I know he is a comedian that people either seem to love or hate, something he talks about in this book.

Life has certainly been unusual, silly, and at times stressful for Michael, but above all it has been a funny life. But it seems you can't really have all that 'success' without it tainting your perspective making it bent on revenge, fear or selfish ambition. We've seen his beginnings and his struggles to become noticed and now we get the story of his rise to fame and fortune. To some degree I take the point about musicians doing new stuff – but by the same token, we love concerts to hear the music we already know. Michael McIntyre is easily one of my favourite comedians, pop him on the telly and I'm guaranteed to be in tears of laughter within seconds.

Michael has had a silly life, a stressful life, sometimes a moving and touching life, but always A Funny Life . It amazed me that he openly admits that he’s never read a book in his life and doesn’t enjoy reading.

We see how he and wife cope with starting a family and moving up the property ladder - all delivered with Michael's unique brand of wit and wonder.Becoming a success in any profession, let alone something as difficult as showbiz, is full of highs and a lot of lows, and he doesn’t ignore these. Being such a huge fan of Michael over the years it was wonderful to see behind the curtain of his famous jokes, amazing performances and shows that I love so much. Despite how much he uses his own life for inspiration for routines, it should come as no surprise that there is so much more. Laugh along with Michael McIntyre as he lifts the curtain on his life in his revealing autobiography.

I found myself missing him, and the rest of the book felt like it lost its sparkle, though their was also more weight to it, with Michael having to figure out how to move forward with his career without Addison in his corner. Although he means well his desire in chasing fame, wealth and status dominates his life and purpose which was sad to read as he doesn't necessarily present himself that way in his stand up.His incredible talent for voices and acting the character of a person brought this book, his story, totally to life, in a way that made me desperate to meet and know these people myself. He pushed Michael further and higher than he believed he could go and the love and appreciation Michael felt for him is very apparent. It was actually one of the parts I liked the most, where he discussed that period where he hadn't found his audience yet, or perhaps they hadn't found him.
