About this deal

The finance world has changed since the writing of this but a lot of the behaviours persist. I hope that it was changed for the better but I am not holding my breath. As a result, despite the jocular tone of the memoirs, I am not sure I would call this book funny - brutal and a little depressing, especially in hindsight.

With models, photography, film and over 60 spectacular taxidermy specimens, discover what we can do to help protect them in this captivating exhibition. Family Fun Test your knowledge Above the associates are the vice presidents, the senior vice presidents (or junior managing directors, depending on the firm), and the managing directors. The associates all have the same goals. They want to make vice president in three to four years, senior vice president in five to seven years, and managing director in seven to nine years. They all hope to be making seven figures by the time they hit managing director. They were in for a surprise. For behind the walls of Wall Street's firms lies a stratum of stunted, overworked, abused, and in the end, very well-compensated, but very frustrated men and women. Monkey Business takes readers behind the scenes at Donaldson, Lufkin, and Jenrette (DLJ), one of Wall Street's hottest firms of the 90s, from the interview process to the courting of clients to bonus time. It's a glimpse of a side of the business the financial periodicals don't talk about -- 20-hour work days, trips across the country where associates do nothing except carry the pitch book, strip clubs at night, inflated salaries, and high-powered, unforgettable personalities.

Layla is perfection on the outside but does have an unnatural obsession with germs and is socially aloof From an outsider’s perspective, I’ve seen a rather humorous and empathetic view of the 80-hour work weeks, constant stress, verbal and mental abuse at the workplace. Layla: Obsessive compulsive and clueless. Her chapters were the most boring thing to read until probably the very end; this is the same time she begins to really feel like a character.

Later, after we got to know each other, Troob would confirm my suspicion that things at Wharton and Harvard were just about the same.

Consulting? Making all those two-by-two charts and matrices and being shipped to some buttf**k place like Biloxi, Mississippi, to help consult some manufacturing company for two months? No thanks."

I enjoyed this book. It was a light and easy read. Sometimes you just need to read a book without having to put alot of thought into it. It was written from four different POVs and the author did a good job of relaying the different characters personalities. He spoke on, telling tales of his trip to Russia as a member of a governmental delegation sent to provide advice to the Russian economic and political chieftains on opening the markets to capitalism. He spoke of the professional opportunities that awaited us at DLJ, the camaraderie, the ability to realize our potential. By God, this man sounded like a genius! You could see the eager MBAs pleading, "Where do I sign? I'll polish shoes! I'll scrub toilets! I'll bugger a billy goat! I'll do anything, as long as it's with John Chalsty at DLJ!" As for Russ, he still keeps in touch with his girlfriend Sharon while simultaneously fooling around with Kimmy. I never understood why he appealed to Kimmy. He’s described as good-looking but personality-wise, he came across as boring and didn’t have much to offer. He wasn’t interesting, smart or funny. I liked how the author portrayed cheating as it was believable. I just wished there had been more focus on Russ, not because he’s fascinating but it would have been great to delve into his thoughts and understand him a little better. MONKEY BUSINESS' is the second book by Sarah Mylnowski that I have read, the first being `AS SEEN ON TV', and while I didn't love `AS SEEN ON TV' I did really enjoy her writing style. Now her fourth novel, `MONKEY BUSINESS' brings that same style to the table but with what is in my opinion a better story line and more likeable characters.Russ is convinced leaving his girlfriend behind was the right move if he intends to take the business world by storm.
